Creation Farmer Training Course

First Work of Adam and Eve by Alonso Cano

Man and Woman

Created from the Soil

“For you are dust,
and to dust you shall return.”

Genesis 3:19

God named the earliest Biblical humans Adam and Eve, which—in ancient Hebrew—translate to “Man” and “Life.” Adam’s name is likely related to the Hebrew word ‘adama, meaning “ground” or “soil.”

Adam and Eve’s relationship on Earth represents the soil’s link to all living Creation. An appreciation for our common home guides many of us on the path to a stronger relationship with our Creator.

Respecting God’s Original Creation

Through our efforts to focus attention on the living soil and its ability to support all Earthbound Creation, the DC Catholic Farming Network is developing a Creation Farming course to train participants as small-scale food producers.

The hybrid course will educate participants through monthly online lectures that explore relevant topics that advocate for sustainable and regenerative farming methods.

A series of practical fieldwork sessions—held near St. Thomas More Catholic Parish in the District of Columbia—will demystify the food production process for participants who always thought about growing their own food, but never knew where to start.

Anyone can grow their own food. What’s more, they can grow their own food while minimizing the use of nonrenewable resources (e.g., synthetic inputs, plastics, and fossil fuels).

Working in harmony with living Creation is a challenge, but it can be learned and the DCCFN can teach anyone how to do it.
